Today starts the EUCF 2010, the most important frisbee event ever run in Spain. It's so nice to see that during the last years Ultimate Frisbee has developed quite strongly in this country. After the enormous value of the effort that pionner teams like Atis Tirma (Gran Canaria) or Patatas Bravas (Barcelona) did in the middle 90s, now we are proud to say that we have 18 teams that practice and participate regularly in the national and regional leagues.
Without doubt, the fact that these teams encouraged themselves to start organizing tournaments has been a key on their own internal development. Disctèrics, Girona's team, will organize from April 16th to 18th the 7th edition of its traditional Lloret Costa Brava, and afterwards the 2n edition of the Eight Nations Championship, planned for the 1st to 3rd July, as a preparation for national teams for the upcoming EUC 2011 this summer.
At this point, organizing the EUCF 2010 in Lloret de Mar has become a real step further to keep growing. We are really thankful to this opportunity that has been given to us. Our Organizing Committée has now turned to be now an actual Spanish LOC, as long as well-prepared cooperators as Jose de los Ríos (Los Quijotes, Madrid), or Lluís Jackle and Orión Santana (Peixets, Barcelona) have joined us permanently. Now, thinking about a stronger promotion of Ultimate Frisbee in Spain is easier, and more considering that one of the main projects of this solid group of people is working for the promotion of the sport among young players.
We must also add in these lines that it is definitively a shame that during this event we had such a hard difficulty with what would have been a normal use of the fields during the weekend. Against our willing, no games will be played on the Top Ten Complex after 12:30h on Saturday. We hope you can understand the difficulties that starting a project can take in a country that still doesn't know much about the relevance our loved sport already has in other places, as long as we hope aswell that the Spirit and spectacularity of Ultimate Frisbee may change many points of view. We will fight for this and apologize for the inconveniences this have might caused.
